Anise hyssop is wild spice that I discovered almost by accident. Actually, I more felt like the plant spoke to me, asking me to pick a leaf and smell it. To my surprise it smelled a lot like licorice.
Although, this is not a licorice plant, it is a useful plant raw or dried for flavoring food, salads, and as a tea. It also has medicinal properties. Being an expectorant - meaning it suppresses coughs and loosens phlegm.
Also, at this time, early to mid-summer cattails have finished pollinating and their leaves are long and tall. Cattail leaves are great for weaving; making basketry, mats, screens, cordage, as well as making shoes and dolls!
